"Half at least of all morality is negative and consists in keeping out of mischief."
I found Huxley's point very interesting, as I have often thought of this. Huxley follows the quote by noting that the Lord's Prayer is less than fifty words long, yet six of those words are solely devoted to asking God not to lead us into temptation. It seems as if the modern day comtemplative is more concerned with what he should not do then what he should. This distracts him and keeps him from being enlightened unto the whole reason behind not doing those forbidden things. As Huxley more eloquently states, the unassured comtemplative leaves undone many things he should do, but to make up for it, refrains from doing a number of things he feels he shouldn't do.
